While there, I saw what I am going to look like in a couple of years.

If you haven't been to LA I highly recommend it during America's Birthday. The traffic is very light, the weather makes you miss anything that makes you happy and it's full of some of the friendliest people I've ever met.

After getting back I was invited to judge the most awkward face in a photo contest.

Although California was a good time, there was a certain very famous person I was hoping to see in Malibu, but failed.

Wait...I've Seen This

This week's movie was a slice of home town Americana that David Lynch titled, Blue Velvet. As far as Lynch's films go, this one probably has the most comprehensive story line, but that really doesn't say a whole helluvalot, because it's just as strange as the others in his closet. While watching it, I had a lot of comparisons with the self-important, surburban boremare(Like a nightmare but way boring dude) American Beauty in that they both take place with seemingly simple people living their lives in Hometown USA, but with SECRETS! In American Beauty, everyone's secret was that they had unique thoughts and feelings and they were not normal, blah-X-a billion but in Blue Velvet, there's all kinds of awesome secrets like murder, kidnapping, betrayal, gay guys, amyl nitrate, the fun never ends. There's even a character who strongly prefers Pabst Blue Ribbon to Heineken. That, I can relate to.

Moving on, the DVD extras are worth the confusion of the film. There is a making-of doc that goes on for an hour and has a lot of screen time with not only David Lynch, who seems like a very friendly guy, but also the main cast. It's very good. There is even a section of it that speaks about the sound effects and music that went into the film, which I really enjoyed. They even included a clip from Siskel and Ebert reviewing it. What's great about the clip is that Ebert goes on a chubby rant about how Lynch abuses his actors and disrespects women, but then Siskel puts the PWND hammer down on Chubby and explains why he is wrong and why the movie is awesome.
If there is one downer to the DVD extras, it is that apparently there was an original 4 hour(!) cut of this movie that got slaughtered down to 2, but all of the cut footage is totally gone. To put a bandage on a ghost, the production team created a deleted scenes montage using only film stills and music. This montage was more confusing than Mulholland Drive, seriously. After watching the film again and all of the DVD goodies, I have a new appreciation for this film and am seriously considering re-watching everything Lynch has done... Even Dune.

Wait, I've Seen This

OK, last week's movies started like this.

This image is from Stanley Kubrick's and what should have been Steven Spielberg's last film, Artificial Intelligence:AI. I actually really like this movie, which is why I own it, but as anyone who's seen it will tell you, it has two endings. Kubricks's ending which is bleak but has closure, and then it goes on for another 20+ minutes with aliens, last wishes, and a boy spending the perfect day with his human mother. Gross... Guess who's ending that was. Aside from all of that, it's a very tragic story, but kind of has a very accurate (in my opinion) point of view of where the world will go if we let technology get ahead of us. It can be best explained in this quote from Jude Law, who by the way has the best fake movie hair ever in this film,

They made us too smart, too quick, and too many. We are suffering for the mistakes they made because when the end comes, all that will be left is us. That's why they hate us, and that is why you must stay here, with me.

There's a bonus DVD that is full of awesome extras, including making of docs that speak a lot about Stanley Kubrick and his vision of the movie. There is also detailed features about the set design, robot design and a look into the sketchbook of the art director for the film. If you like this movie, it's totally worth it.

Next up was...

Batman Begins from 2005. I saw this opening night in theatres, and haven't seen it since, so it was like watching for the first time, and wow! Easily my in my top list of movies of the past ten years (which is coming up soon). Honestly I can't say much about this, because the movie is awesome and because I cheaped out and got the $5 DVD of this at Target so there is no bonus features. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie, or better yet, buy the 2-Disc Deluxe Edition for me and we can watch it together!

"Stop being so dramatic!"

This sentence is screamed by Anette Benning in the first five minutes of this movie and boy, was I screaming it back by the last five. This is a DVD I paid for. It was one of the first I purchased when I got a DVD player. I recall seeing this for the first time and thinking how shocking and unconventional it was for a portrayal of suburban life. It's funny how things can turn on you in time. I could barely get through this movie let alone the DVD extras which include a making-of which is a self congratulatory 20 minute ass kissing fest. If that wasn't boring enough, there is also a shot-to-storyboard comparison between the Director, Sam Mendes and his cinematographer. Still into it? It goes on for OVER AN HOUR! The only thing worth mentioning in their discussion is Sam Mendes gets the cinematographer to admit to being a pervert towards his daughter's friends. As for the movie itself, it really is worse than I remember it. Everyone is pissy. Everyone is selfish, and in the end Kevin Spacey gets blasted with a smile on his face. Sorry if I ruined it for you, but I really can't speak about this anymore. Alan Ball, you have won me back with True Blood though.

OK, science fiction double feature. The first, as I mentioned last time is the 1988 animated classic,Akira. I feel like a punk though for attempting to write any justice to this DVD. I was really busy while this was playing, which made for an awkward grind because I really just wanted to watch this epic cartoon from front to back and again with the DVD extras. If you haven't seen this film, it comes highly recommended without saying. The extras were actually kind of cool, from what I understood. (Mostly in Japanese with subtitles that I wasn't reading) They had a very detailed making-of doc that was actually created just after the movie finished, which was 1988. Long story short there is a lot to geek out over, this disc was made especially for fans of the movie.

OK, on to the next one, which I already knew was amazing, but had not seen District 9 until now. Racism and xenophobia could not have happened in a better place then South Africa. It felt uncomfortably realistic to see a human society fed up with an alien race because they have been squatting on "our land," for 20 years. It was also really sad to see a somewhat obnoxious bureaucrat/family man go from human to alien both physically and emphatically, to just end up alone in District 9. Sad, no? On another note, the violence and weapons are awesome!! The way people get obliterated by the alien guns reminded me a lot of the gory, splatter deaths people had in 70s and 80s horror movies. Horrific and hilarious! In fact, that's the rating I'll give this one. Also, didn't watch the DVD extras, but the interface is top notch. Like a video game.

Today's lunch time laugh riot is going to be..... American Beauty. yay.

Wait, I've Seen This

In the studio I need noise. The dogs barking will do, because they like to gossip about boys, but also music or television. Daytime TV as we all know, is awful and sometimes I don't want to work while bopping my head, so I have started a new exercise to keep the noise going and test my ever waning attention span. Sounds productive right?!
What I'm doing is, going through our semi-alphabetized DVD collection and watching whatever it is to completion. Extra features and all. OK, so enough babbling. Let's get on with the babbling... about movies!

I will give you this introduction, but if you want more go here.
The film takes place in Detroit, but Kim Basinger is the only character who speaks with a southern accent. Yes, Kim Basinger is in this and she plays the whore, trailer trash mother of Eminem. Sadly the whole movie is pretty much a waste of time, but the scenes with here are really funny.
The movie is mediocre as well as its extras. There is a making of feature that interviews cast and crew, but suspiciously none of the female actors. Brittany Murphy and Kim Basinger are probably the biggest stars of that film, but however not interviewed at all in the short documentary. I guess they couldn't be bothered with this DVD any more than I could. There's also a 20+ minute doc on the making of the battle rap scenes from the movie, which is as exciting as it sounds, but the biggest let down was the music video section. The story occurs in the mid 90s, so the hip hop soundtrack to it is awesome, however.... The titles of these 90s rap gems are shown, but what you get on pressing play is the scene from the movie, when they used that song. OK, I'm over it, I hated it, moving on.

You've seen it. You loved it. You should know that the DVD extras are worth far more than the $5 I paid for this treasure and the $0 I paid for ol' 8Mile. There a tons of deleted scenes, outtakes, bloopers, etc. Also, I'll give you some advice on DVD purchases. Buy anything that Paul Rudd has been in because the deleted scenes and outtakes are always funny. Love Paul Rudd, no-homo.

Date night with the wife was spent getting drinks and watching women perform on stage. Actually, it was female comedians, but it was probably one of my favorites... Maria Bamford. She's not too famous yet, but still pretty famous. What I like about her comedy is that it's not really watching someone tell jokes, but more like watching a crazy person lose their mind in front of strangers. So awesome, also pug jokes!

I've been a Radiohead for a good while now and one criticism I've heard about them and bands like Portishead is "It's beautiful music but really depressing." I never really heard what people meant by that statement, until I heard Grizzly Bear. For the most part I'm really into their music because of that blanket statement, however... This song video below is really beautiful and depressing in the best way possible. If you don't believe me just read the quote below from a YouTube viewer.

Also, in great videos is the only good video from Beach House's ambitious video for every song on the album project for Teen Dream. This one blew my mind a little bit. Just the tip though.

So my day-to-day work psyche is a balance of worldwide tragedy and material things I can never afford. Awesome right? Because of these choices, it's gotten me a little closer to the pulse of what's "cool." You could call me a fashionista, or you could get punched in the face.

Things I Want, But Don't Need - Summer Edition

I could probably start an entire site/blog devoted to things that I really want, but don't really need. However, greed really isn't en vogue these days so I will try to keep these posts to a minimum..... of maybe 20 a month. Anyways, here is the first on my summer wish list for doing nothing good.

The Hello Skateboard, from Buddy Carr and designed by Antonio Carusone.

Reason for Wanting: Look at it! It's simple. It's friendly and since I have moved to my current neighborhood, I pretty much travel by foot, bike or skateboard.

Why I Don't Need It: I already have a skateboard that is years old, and looks like I have used it twice. Also, this board looks too clean. The first time it gets scuffed I would probably freak out and never ride to preserve what's left of its charm. Kind of like what happened to my current sidewalk surfer. Actually, the more I look at it, I think this little vehicle of multi-culti salutations would look better the more it gets worn. Just like a pair of Chuck Taylors. Yeah, I want it.

Item number 2. The Warp20 Boxset from Warp records.

Reason for Wanting: It is a time capsule of sorts that displays 20 years worth of work from one of my favorite record labels. I won't wax-on, wax-off about the details, but it has CDs, vinyl, and a few books. Early this year I also told myself that I would only buy music in physical format if the packaging was cool. Let me tell you, the packaging is to kill for. (If you had $130 on your person)

Why I Don't Need It: I have more than enough music, records and books to keep my cool status up to date for at least the next six months. Other than that, I really don't have a good enough reason. I'm pretty sure this would fill my music nerd/snob void for a long time.

Soooo I am sending an early pretty please with sugar on top to anyone who is kind enough, or obsessive enough for my affections to get either one of these gems for me. If it's any form of gratitude, I would happily kick down some art or design work for free! I'll even walk your dog.

Jumping on the bandwagon

A few months ago I bought a new bike. Now, I don't really know much about bicycles, but a few months back, a friend of mine who rides a fixed gear told me it was the way to go. It seemed to make perfect sense to me, being that the whole single speed/gear aspect appealed to simple needs in a bike. When I bought my bike, it was not only a single speed but also had a flip-flop hub, meaning it was a free wheel on one side, or fixed gear on the other. After riding my little ghetto whip as a free wheel, I switched the hub and tried it "fixie." The perpetual motion felt really strange at first because of the constant pedaling, but at the same time it felt like it really made sense, and I actually felt a little more in control of what I was doing.
In my hipster-hideout of a neighborhood, it's pretty easy to see that fixed gear bikes are the new skateboard. Being as that I am already part of the coolest kids on earth club, I really wasn't psyched about joining into a new trend and having to deal with being a noob. In addition to not being an already 10 year veteran of fixies, I would have to endure comparing Italian Vintage parts, tight pants and blah blah blah. I would probably feel an awful like that kid from the movie North Shore:

So yeah, it's just a bike. What's the big deal? After watching the DVD Mash SF I saw this clip, and it totally make sense.

I am totally ready to bail down some hills, and eat pavement! Also, watching that video made me want to listen to M83 again... Or rather at all. Their albums didn't make much sense to me when I listened to them in the past. But now I get it. Their music sounds so much better while involved in near death experiences. Drama Rock and Bikes might be my Modus Operandi for the rest of summer! Or at least until I get laughed out of Reynoldstown because my cut-off jeans aren't short enough.

Earlier today I was at the Post Office, when a few people in front of me I noticed a girl with a tattoo of a circus seal. It looked just like this:

Same pose and everything, only this appeared to be the only tattoo that was visible. I love interesting and comical tattoos and really wanted to ask her about hers, but stopped because: A.) Maybe it's symbolic to her time working for PETA, freeing circus seals and bringing it up, will dig up horrid tales of PETA missions gone wrong. and B.) In about 23 seconds I won't care about it anyway.
So at about the 22.5 second mark of my attention span, a woman behind me asks me about my tattoo, which is based off of this:

I give her a simple definition and continue buying my stamps. (Geez, I kinda sound like an old lady... At the Post Office mid morning, buying stamps) So for probably the next few hours I'm going to work on my psychic abilities. If I don't post any results before the end of today, it means they worked and I am now in the future... Where internets and common sense no longer exist.

This is like a month old, but for my birthday, Sasha got me this really cute and ka-razee action figure. He comes disassembled and made out of paper:

I really couldn't make out any of this, but from what I gather, he enjoys taking vacations and is often unsure about reaching goals. I assume as much about myself, so I figure me and Paper Plane Robot have a lot in common. Also, he looks good chilling with the rest of my vinyl posse.

Speaking of vinyl, I used to have a faux-career* long ago as a DJ, but haven't done it in quite some time. Anyways, this video brings back a lot of memories and has really put the bug in me to drag out the ol' 1s and 2s and start making mixtapes... (cough) I mean mixes in varying formats from CD to MP3, podcast, etc. again.

* By faux-career in DJing I meant that I put in all the work of a real DJ if not more, but never cared enough to follow it as a commercial prospect because I refused to do requests, weddings or your kid's shitty middle school dance. WTF is Serato anyway?

The Wraith

No, not The Wrath as in "Star Trek: The Wrath o' Khan," but the The Wraith as in overlooked bad ass movie from the 80s. While on holiday in Maui, my brother asked me if I remember a movie about a hot rod that challenged other dudes to races and then killed them as revenge. Wait here's the IMDB version of what I just said:

Packard Walsh and his motorized gang lord and terrorize an Arizona desert town, where they force boys to drag-race so they can 'win' their vehicles. After they beat the decent teenager Jamie Hankins to death, dragging him from his girlfriend while they made love, a mysterious power creates Jake Kesey, an extremely cool motor-biker, who has a car which makes invincible. Jake befriends Jamie's girlfriend Keri Johnson, takes Jamie's sweet brother Bill under his wing and manages what sheriff Loomis couldn't: eliminate Packard's criminal gang the hard way...

This wasn't Charlie Sheen's first movie, but aside from Major League, this is the toughest he's ever been. He hardly speaks, he dresses like a porn star, and he gets to make the love with Sherilyn Fenn. Oh, I should also mention that he's an alien who kills people with his car! I really do miss the anything and everything goes imagination of movies from the 80s. Maybe next week I'll talk more about awesome movies from the golden age of cable TV cinema. So yeah, the best reason to own a Wii landed this weekend. This game brings back memories of staying up really late, listening to drum & bass records and burning fools on the 150CC circuit. That's Pro Status to those too interested in parties & bullshit. Nothing has brought me more adventure, laughter, drama, sheer terror and pure anger like this game, and now I get to share it with Miss Von. I was a little hesitant at first that she might not like it, considering you not only have to drive, but also do battle with Italians, Sea Creatures and babies, but she got the hang of it. The great thing about Mario Kart is that there is always a certain point, much like falling in love with a human that something ignites, sparks fly and you know you've found the one you want to spend the rest of your life with. For Miss Von it was when she was close to the finish line, something had sabotaged her progress and she began yelling repeatedly, "F*ck You! F*ck You! F*CK YOU!!! She was in love and their was no turning back.

This weekend Sasha and I bought some new bicycles. They didn't have the luxury tandem model with the added La-Z-Boy Chair for a pug dog, like we asked. Sasha, did however get the Cadillac of Cruiser Bikes.

And I got what was later explained to me as "The Ultimate Hipster Bike." I really wasn't looking for street cred in the white belt mafia, but I did want something that was, as I put it "Murdered out and fast as hell."

Also, I'm making a limited edition set of prints to sell for cheap. The design itself, will be the same, but each sheet of paper will be given its own "Invisible Touch," like the Phil Collins song, to make each one unique. More on that soon.

Today at lunch I was sitting in traffic, because in the part of town I work, that's what people do to spend their lunch breaks. They sit in traffic. While I was on the way back from 1 mile, 45 minute drive to get gas I saw possibly the dumbest and least humorous bumper sticker ever. The sticker was attached to a Range Rover and read "I'm not voting for Monica Lewisnky's Ex-Boyfriend's Wife for President!" I'm sorry, who aren't you voting for? Personally I found that sticker to be offensive to the english language as well as D grade comedy in general. It's an incredibly asinine way for Old Farts in Range Rovers to say "I'm not voting for Hillary Clinton," which by the way, nobody cares who you aren't voting for! I have a pretty low tolerance for bumper stickers in general, but this was one hurt. The only thing I think that could have made the sticker comical was having a sticker next to it, that reads "Vote YES on dead horse beatings!"
A Monica Lewinsky joke in 2008? Really?! Should I maybe join this band wagon of bumper humor with a sticker that reads, "Who would vote for a woman whose husband didn't inhale!" or maybe I can start a throwback bumper sticker trend with zingers like, "Don't look at me, I voted for Dukakis!" Either i'm on to something or I dropped the plot completely.

Ghost Whisper Your Way Into Her Heart

I’m a geek. I play video games for hours, I read comic books and this past Christmas, my mom got me a twelve-inch Transformer that lights up and talks. I should probably say at this point that I am in my twenties, but I don’t live with my parents. Thankfully I have a girlfriend, but I realize I am one of the few, lucky ones. There are many others out there whose toy and comic book collections I would be extremely envious of, but they are not as fortunate as myself. It would seem that it’s understood that geeks are the guys who usually never get the girl because of their bizarre and misunderstood interests. While this has been true for sometime, I think I may have found a loophole for some of my fellow geeks to play the game of love and possibly even get to first base. It’s in ghosts.

Since December I started watching a show called Paranormal State which is essentially the after school project of one student, Ryan to research paranormal activities around the East Coast. Obviously he’s doing well because he has his own show, but based on his geeky interests, he’s not only catching the ghosts… He’s also catching the ladies! He has a core team of only five people, but it’s three girls and two guys. Ryan is the “Director” of the squad and his male counterpart his Sergey, the tech expert. Obviously a geek, but that still leaves three females who hang off of Ryan’s every word during their meetings. In every episode he manages to talk these girls into going into Pennsylvania Trailer Parks on the weekend, stay up passed 3:00 AM to conduct what he calls “dead time” all with the promises of seeing ghosts! I have a girl who I love, and loves me but I don’t think I could ever in my wildest dreams talk her into going into a trailer park late night to find ghosts. The only “dead time” to be had would be with myself. I don’t believe in magic, but Ryan’s got it. If you don’t believe me, check the guy’s Myspace! He’s got over 4,000 friends, nothing but ladies leaving him comments, and check the fine print at the bottom. HE’S SINGLE!!! A true player on Earth, and in the afterlife.

Among Paranormal State, there are other shows that deal with ghosts and the paranormal and both show’s stars are females. Patricia Arquette plays some sort of psychic on Medium and we also have Jennifer “I’m a size 2!” Love Hewitt on The Ghost Whisperer. Granted, neither of these women are prize pigs of the fair (Well maybe J. Love) but they are women related to ghosts and ghost hunting. Coincidence? Maybe not.

So to any geeks reading this, if you want to impress the ladies, you need to stop talking about robots and start talking about ghosts. Instead of waxing intellectual about Heroes you need to appeal to your sensitive side with Paranormal State. Before even finishing this, I can already think of highly effective pick up lines to use at the bar. For instance just strike up a convo with a lady about Paranormal State, which leads into sharing your own experiences with paranormal, which after a few drinks and cleverly maneuvered hands, you can whisper this into her ear. “I can sense a paranormal presence… In my pants!”

Viggo Mortensen - Eastern Promises

Seriously, this dude is bad to the ass, literally in this film. He always wears a sharp suit, with sunglasses. Drinks like a fish, usually alone and smokes constantly! In one scene before chopping and disposing of a body he tells a man to leave the room just before putting his cigarette out on his own tongue!! One of the few scenes that he is not wearing a sharp suit he is full on naked... And fighting two guys at once with knives! I won't go into much detail, but I think next to getting shot with a crossbow, getting attacked and killed by a naked, tattooed russian is the scariest thing that could happen to someone. Oh wait, and after all of this display of being the sickest dude ever... He saves a baby and kisses Naomi Watts. BAD ASS for sure!

So congratulations Viggo on a well deserved award!

Resolution to Dissolution in 2K8

Sorry for the delayed 2007 year in review, but to be honest it was the best and worst years I have had in a while. Enough on that. Usually every year I make the resolution to reinvent myself in some way, if even in a small way. With that accomplished, last year I resolved to sell at least one painting in 2007, which I accomplished by selling a few. This year I am resolving to stick to my guns when it comes to music. In recent years i've noticed I am becoming somewhat of an old fuddy-duddy with what I choose to keep in my collection. With that I am baffled with some trends in music as well. For instance since when did kids like Daft Punk like they are the new hott thing to wear tight pants to? I've been a fan of there's since Homework, but it seems like when I go to Nice Hair Parties I hear something from then and wonder, "When was house music acceptable among the American Apparel breed?" In that same vein, people jumped on the Justice wagon soon after. I mean, there music is alright, but i'm saying alright from the dance music/former raver in GAT jeans point o' view. Not the "Vice Magazine said it was cool so i'll make out with dudes in clubs" perspective. What makes me actually dislike Justice and the house they rode in on, is that they are unashamed to admit that their music is for the brainless. I guess admitting it gains a bit of recognition, but unlike Daft Punk, we won't be brought to Justice in ten years. Another group I got fooled with was Spank Rock from Baltimore. Shame on me for buying something from Ninja Tune but this album sucks. I really can't put it any other way, but I believe El-P's buzzed remark about them earlier this year, says all I can.

"So, Justin welcome to a few years ago in television. How's it going so far?"

So far it's been hilarious and what I am talking about is the funniest show of a few years ago, that I had never viewed until now. It's Arrested Development. Around the time that show started I remember seeing it on the screens but didn't play too close attention because I was busy winning/cheating at Trivia. Sorry, but I can only allow one geeky vice on Sundays. Anyways, I wasn't too interested in catching up with the program, not because it didn't look funny, but because of all the people who would come up to me exclaiming their praises of the program. "Oh my God, Justin you have to watch it! It's like the BEST SHOW EVERRR!" Because of my natural instinct to shy away from things forced to my approval, I didn't bother watching, but when one strange woman (I mean she was a stranger and female. I had no idea if she really was strange) described the show to me as "Like a Soap Opera, but faster!" Nope. Definately not gonna watch now. The only soap opera I devoted enough time to was Passions. Don't ask, it's a dumb story, but anyways....

Years later I was reading on IMDB about the cast of Superbad and noticed that Michael Cera was a character on Arrested Development, whose character name was "George Michael." That small, trivial tidbit of information is all I needed to become interested of giving in to what people at trivia referred to as "THE BEST SHOW EVERRR!" I asked my cuter, smarter, and much more capable with a gun half to order the show on Blockbuster and from Season 1: Disc 1 I have been HOOKED! Everything from the writing to the editing is nothing short of brilliant! I mean, getting Liza Minelli to stand upright long enough to become part of a bizarre love triangle on a sitcom, is really a type of genius I could never think of. Also, I never knew Jason Bateman could be such a dick, but be so funny at it. I really thought he blazed in Teen Wolf Too, but to come back after such a shining role, really says something. Seriously though, Jason Bateman is really funny, but I was kidding about Teen Wolf Too. It's not as good Mannequin 2: On the Move or Ernest Scared Stupid.

I've become so engulfed with every character, phrase and gesture that I find things comical about them that probably aren't. For instance, there's one scene where G.O.B (Will Arnett) is reading the appetizers on a menu to Liza Minelli. For some reason, I really want to meet Will Arnett just so he can read menu items to me in that overly, dramatic voice. It's a Man-Comedy Crush, folks. No homo!

I just finished Season 2: Disc 2 tonight, and I'm excited but incredibly bummed about the last season. I'm sure it's amazing, but it will not be enough. Also, for those who missed it, Sons & Daughters had one season on NBC a few years ago, and it was crazy hilarious, but sadly died too soon.

So now we're going from an old trend I love to a new trend I hate. Women's pants and shorts. Not all kinds, but specifically this new trend of the high waisted things with lots of buttons. Seriously, I feel like the fashion world is playing a trick on me. Here's what I mean:

Do girls really think this is a good look? The wedge shoe, I get but the wedge shorts?!

I really don't understand. I know that there was some back lash about low-waisted pants with women's underoos showing and blah, blah, blah, but the Camel Toe is not the answer! I don't quite know what the solution is but these charming, stretchy things...

I'm so happy that I have someone who isn't falling for this practical joke of an outfit, because The Visible would be sitting the single scene out, until the fad or world ends. Which ever came first. Who knows what's next for winter. I'm betting on platform jelly sandals with tool belts.

I should mention now, that the images found were from Urban Outfitters. High pants. Don't do it.

This weekend, the girl and I took an extended weekend to New Mexico to enjoy a life outside of bad traffic, worse mexican food, and unbearable humidity. No pictures, get over it. Unless you wanted to see: 1.) Pictures of food 2.) Pictures of clothes 3.) Pictures of dogs that don't belong to me.

Anyways at the airport, in the news-stand I looked at something that i've looked at a thousand times and wondered the same thing for a really long time. Nudie Mags... They always have these fine publications at the airport along with magazines about cars, sports, sports cars, nerd stuff, etc... When I look and ponder at the boob-a-zines I'm not really thinking about what's inside (well kinda), but i'm mostly thinking about who would buy these and look at them while on an airplane? The majority of passengers are business men who are either single, or traveling alone, but they are also flying with a few hundred other people, all seated within inches of each other. In these strict confines, it's easy to notice what other people were reading, because there's no room to disguise your self-help books, get-rich-quick books or any other reading material. Sasha was reading a book called "My Horizontal Life" by Chelsea Handler. Though most people do not have any scruples about reading these things in public, who is the guy reading the porn on the plane?!

In all the years i've flown on planes, I have always seen these magazines displayed high above any others, wrapped in plastic, marinating in that "Nude Book Smell" but really, I have never seen a person (man, woman or otherwise) purchase one of these magazines and just look at them openly while seated on an airplane. I kinda want to meet the dude who has the confidence to sit down in 29B get settled in next to the grandma visiting here grand children (possibly for the last time) and cracking open a copy of Penthouse. Seriously, what else is this guy to do on a plane? Maybe he's a recovering alcoholic so he can't drink the booze. Or maybe he's dyslexic and can't do crossword puzzles. Or maybe he's not interested in watching Shrek the 3rd. What's a dude to do? Look at boobs!

Personally I couldn't do it. My limits are the Maxims and Stuff Magazines, because it's a little more respected and usually full of useful articles, like: how to cut off your own hand, or how to hypnotize a lobster (All real articles that I've read.) But I don't think I have the testicular fortitude to go through page after page of the female anatomy in all of it's blond hair, brightly lit glory, then turn to the woman next to me and ask "So, you like Nicholas Sparks?"

Remember when I had a theory about my girl Sasha going through a Bourne Identity realization, when she was able to fire a gun really well on her first try? Well, if you don't know, this is who I am talking about.

In New Mexico this weekend, we went to the local Spy Shop to see what kind of useless junk we could get 30 minutes of entertainment from with our friends back in ATL. Aside from voice disguisers and hidden cameras, they had various sets of lock picking equipment. Sasha takes the two metal untensils, gets a 10-second lesson on how to use them, wiggles them around for a minute, and Eureeka! She opened the lock! Like the gun, she accomplished this on her first try, and on various levels of difficulty with different locks. So yeah, I am again reminded who wears the pants, who holds the guns, and who picks the locks in our relationship, but I am happy with my station in life. I can however kill any, and everybody at Wii Bowling on the Nintendo.

Speaking of my girl, she is really making some waves in the wonderful world of cute girls making art. And if ya don't know, now ya know!

All you really need to know about the 4th of July, you usually learn early on, like: Fireworks are dangerous, noisy and fun as hell. Also, territorial and religious independence tastes better with beer. A few years ago, I learned that the best thing to shoot out of a potato cannon is a t-shirt drenched in gasoline, but this year was an eye opening experience. This 4th O' July I learned that my girlfriend can probably eliminate me by way of assassination. First, let me show a picture of my girl, Sasha:

Doesn't look to harmless does she? We celebrated Independence Day at my family's house, where my brother in-law had an air rifle, with some beer cans set up for targets. We traded shots between the few men trying to hit the can. A few of us did, but I never, in my 6-7 tries landed a shot. Mind you, I'm pretty good at Goldeneye on the N64 and a sharp shooter at my favorite arcade game, House of the Dead, which Sasha also loves to play. I ask her if she wants to shoot a few rounds of the air rifle, and she immediately takes the position, like she realized she was a former government agent on some Bourne Identity type business. Sasha clicks the safety, takes aim... and BANG! Nails, the can on her first try! After a few other shots I decide to make things a bit more explosive, so I fill up a plastic cup with water. Again I take a few shots to no avail, my brother manages to hit it dead on and then we set up another cup o' water for Lee Harvey in a skirt. This time she nails the cup on different shots. If they were proportioned to a human body, it would have been direct hits on the skull and the heart. Even though I gave her the pat on the back, I kinda cried a little bit. just on the inside though, I ain't no pussy. Just a lousy shot. It was a moment of a new, but surreal understanding because this is the same girl, who can take 30 minutes to pick out a bag of candy, then forget it in the store, but could probably shoot me from a long distance with Jack Bauer precision.

So I guess I've learned something new on the birthday of America. If push comes to shove, my ass is getting shot. If you see this person...

Do not run. Take your execution like a man. I know I will... Maybe. Probably not though.

Okay, okay simmer down now here are some flicks of my trip to San Francisco along with a few outtakes of good times and bad people I know around my beloved Terminus City. Let's kick it Essay! Our first night out, we met with Sasha's old friend, Sharon who showed us around SF and got me drunk at one of her bars.

So we didn't know how to use this photobooth, we were just like "OMG Photobooth?!"

This time we got the hang of it. Also, I don't use the term "rad" much these days, but Sharon is RAD! Like that part in the movie RAD when they ride into the school dance and the song "Send me an Angel" plays. Hanging out with her was like riding BMX bikes in a gym. RAD to the MAXX!
